The National Skate Patrol (NSP) was developed in 1992 by the New York
Road Skaters Association (NYRSA) and International Inline Skating
Association (IISA). The NSP is a network of proficient volunteers who
help skaters to better coexist with motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and
other park and trail users. These red-shirted volunteers assist with
street skating events, conduct free braking clinics, offer tips on skate
etiquette, and otherwise assist new and experienced skaters alike.
As active participants in our local communities NSP is often involved
with other sporting groups, special events, and community organizations…sometimes as Course Marshals, sometimes
participating in Neighborhood Watch and many other cooperative
activities. NSP’ers are often
seen distributing skate safety maps, working with the local police,
assisting park departments, and staging events with skate retailers.
Many are Certified Instructors.
In
some cases NSP’ers are students satisfying community service
requirements. There are currently 16 NSP chapters in a number of major
US
cities and
Canada. |
